While incredibly intelligent, Robby's social skills aren't quite up to par with his peers. At almost thirty years old, he has lived as practically a hermit, inventing and tinkering with things since he had been young. He is out of his element as a pirate, of course, but he feels protected under Harley and knows that he's at least helping out someone. He has a shadow of guilt that follows him wherever he goes, his depression weighing him down far too much.
He's quiet and shy at first, but it doesn't take long to bring Rob out of his shell. His kind and gentle personality makes him soothing to talk to, in spite of how slow he can be with social cues. He means well, but sometimes he says what would be said as the "wrong" things. His awkward personality is either a turn on or turn off, there's not a real in between with him. Rob is also a bit wary of things like love, it seems foreign to him.
