as a first mate, things got ugly - and fast.
ever since he had gotten on the damned ship, the hour, it was as if his sanity was draining down to an all-new low. hayden shoved a hand into his dirty-blonde locks, trying to shake off the stress alongside the movement. he took a couple of deep breaths, then mentally fixated his list of 'things to do', much to his disdain.
it wasn't as if people wanted to work with the stupid, lackadaisical captain, following his example, but he digressed.
first, the ship needed to be washed. it wasn't such a complex mission, because really, all that needed to be done was it needed to be swabbed, from the front to the toe. hayden drew the map in his head - the brooms and mops would be under the deck, in the cupboard of the spare cabins, but the water was the problem. even if hayden did get some soap or something to clean and bring back the luster she had from the beginning, he didn't really want to spray water on the unsuspecting, poor civilians down below. that would be ...
terrible, for the lack of the better word.
'oh, arceus,' he mutters aloud as he cradles his head in his hands, leaning against the span of the wooden edge before raising his eyes against the blue skies, amazed at how there wasn't even a speck of cloud against the milky, soft canvas. he almost wanted to touch it and feel it and just, eat -
a growl confirmed his suspicion. he was hungry.
rolling his eyes at the so dear intrusion of his hunger, the first mate of the hour quickly vacated his spot from earlier and rubbed at his abdomen, as if that would placate the thing until he reached the kitchen. sera truly was a fantastic cook, but ... if anything, her snappy retorts and 'don't give a fuck, problem?' attitude gave her the unnecessary aura of being too intimidating.
he grins, knocking on the flimsy, wooden barrier as he straightens out his complexion, looking quite fine - he thought so himself. the harsh nip of the air was biting on his skin, turning his cheeks rosy red, but it wasn't unwanted - it was so fresh and clear and soothing, and that was what he needed.
'miss avery?' he begins, ever the gentleman, 'may i intrude? i'm so terribly hungry!' maybe she would be nicer today!

Lunch time! Sera had been expecting the whole crew to come barreling into the kitchen when she heard someone knock on the door. The girl looked up as she tossed a piece of lettuce in her mouth and saw the, though she wouldn't admit it, hansom first mate. Today she was in a pretty good mood, cooking always did seem to soothe her and she wasn't bothered most of the time. She was allowed to say when the meals were made and she wasn't stuck making trivial little dishes from a menu. The first mate was nice enough and Sera found it kind of cute how he came into the kitchen trying to be a gentleman about it. Nodding, Sera turned back to what she was doing, tossing a salad together in the big bowl in front of her.
"Lunch is almost ready," the redhead smiled pushed the salad to the side. Pirates didn't eat very healthy food, well at least not before she join the crew. The thought made her smile a bit wondering if the boys would like the salad at all. She turned back to her stove, seasoning the soup and stirring it a bit before testing it, she wouldn't feed anyone if her food didn't taste good. "Soup or salad?" the girl asked not even looking at the first mate as bread popped out of the toaster. She hurried over to the toast and pulled the hot toast onto a plate so that she could make a turkey bacon sandwich. Healthy, healthy, healthy. She wasn't going to feed the boys slop everyday. No! She wasn't going to make the seven courses for every meal either though.
Walking back over to the stove Sera pulled some bacon out of the frying pan onto a plate. She returned to the sandwich layering the bread with turkey then bacon before adding the lettuce and tomatoes. Stabbing the bread with a tooth pick just to hold the giant thing together Sera plated the sandwich.

staring at the food made hayden's mouth water hungrily, as he almost savagely looked at the meal being prepared. he was still a growing man - or that's what he kept on saying to himself, anyway. the dark-blonde man only stood to the side, eyes catching sight of every movement sera was making in the kitchen. it was as if she was born there - made to be there, creating all kinds of delicious dishes with her own power; like a queen upon her throne. just like he felt as if he should belong in the free skies, unburdened and carefree, she looked like she was the best one to be in charge of the cooking. besides, he had no idea what kind of terrible food he would be forced to consume if she wasn't there. to hayden ( and to a lot of the other crew, probably and mostly, ) sera was a lifesaver.
with a sheepish grin, hayden traveled over to pick up a small piece of fallen bacon on the side of the dish and popped it into his mouth, chewing and relishing the scrumptious aftertaste before he took a seat on the wooden stool, inhaling the scent, closing his eyes and just imagining. it was good, the turkey and bacon sandwich, but sometimes, hayden wished for some unhealthy food - just like other men! they were just scared of coming and saying that to sera, it seemed, because they would always quake in fear of not receiving the meal they wanted. after long hours of working, food to receive nutrients from was really the best thing - right next to sleep.
his hungry stare was focused on the sandwich before sera stabbed a toothpick into it; he jolted out of a slight shock before smiling up at her, mustering the most famished and innocent look he could ever position onto his face before making some sort of a praying sign with his two hands, flat palms fitting onto another in the form of a pleading formation, as he spoke. 'can i have this one right now, please?' another growl from his stomach emphasized his hunger, as he tilted his head to the side, reaching for maximum effect. 'i even washed my hands!'

Turning to look at the first mate plead to her was quite amusing, the girl couldn't help but smirk at the amount of power she held just by controlling when they ate. Sure they docked at night but during the day where else were they suppose to get food? Sera grabbed the plate and placed it on the counter where three stools were sitting in front of, turning away from the pirate Sera grabbed a bowl and quickly ladled some fresh soup into it before placing it on the counter as well. "Just because you managed to look so cute," Sera snickered to herself before releasing her kadabra from it's pokeball. "Hue fill some bowls with soup for me please," the psychic pokemon nodded and busily went to work using telekinesis to move the ladle to the bowls.
Sera turned to find something suitable to drink with the lunch before returning to the counter with a bottle full of sweet tea and a spoon for Hayden's soup. "Careful, the soups still hot," by the sound of the man's stomach he didn't have the sense to stop himself before burning his tongue but she though to warn him anyways. No doubt the man would be tucking into his sandwich before she could fill him a cup for him to drink.
"Don't tell the cap'n I fed you first," Sera smirked. "Usually he likes to be the first served meals." The girl turned back into her kitchen putting more bread into the toaster and making another sandwich while she waited. "Once you're done that could you go give this to him," Sera said piling on extra bacon.

with a fistpump in the air, hayden grinned widely, picking up the sandwich and taking a huge bite out of the edge. the flavours all mixed in together, creating this one delicious, scrumptious, delightful dish that would ( in the near future, hopefully, ) satiate his hunger. through a full mouth, he tried to talk around the food, chirping a 'thank you!' before returning to digging into the sandwich, reveling the taste. he swallowed the chewed food, turning his eyes towards the revealed pokemon - her kadabra, as it began skillfully dishing the soup into the bowls. the steaming platter was set in front of him, and without thinking, he took the silver spoon on the side, taking a huge slurp before nearly jumping out of his seat.
as sera had probably expected, he wasn't ready for the incredibly hot liquid to burn his tongue as he writhed, grabbing a pitcher of water at the side of the table before just lifting it straight to his mouth, sense of manners and everything gone as he began to quickly drink; after downing the whole thing, he paused, turning teary eyes towards the other, as if saying an apology. 'sorry,' he says, wiping at the stray tears at the corners of his eyes as he sits down, albeit awkwardly, 'i-i'll be careful! and i'll restock the supplies when we hit ground! - oh, and i'll wash that ...' he looks at the pitcher with an embarrassed countenance, 'i know i shouldn't have put my mouth on it ...' it was then he noticed the bottle of sweet tea, and beamed, clutching at it. did she know it was his favourite? well, whatever the case was, he appreciated it.
he takes another bite, before giving a noticeable pout. he slumps onto the table, leaning, before opening his now-vacant mouth to speak. 'how come?' he whines, staring at her wistfully, 'why do i haf'ta do that? it's not like i'm his personal servant ...' hayden takes more quick, famished gulps, and the sandwich is gone, only crumbs decorating the once-full dish. he sips at the soup now, careful and deliberately slow. 'not saying that you do, he says with a smile, 'but ... i'm so tired. but ... i shouldn't let a lady do all this work. point taken,' the first mate lets out a sound that sounds like a 'bah', before pinching at his nose. 'i'll do it! if anything, it'll be a chore for me after this delicious meal!'
his oshawott waddles in, picking at the bread crumbs with a wry grin!

Sera couldn't help but snicker to herself as the first mate burned his tongue just as she had expected, boys really were predictable. She found it even more amusing when the man quickly stumbled across words trying to apologize for it all, "I'll hold you to that, I'll have a few dishes you can do along with it." Finishing the next sandwich just as the toaster popped up with freshly toast bread, "plus, I don't really enjoy lugging crates all the way to the ship in the middle of the night." More bacon, more lettuce, more turkey. "People are going to start thinking that I am smuggling stuff or something." The girl tried her best to stay out of the trouble that the boys cause but loading things onto a ship did look suspicious no matter who did it. "I may just be the chef but if some guard decides it looks like a good idea to nab me you can kiss you meal ticket good-bye." Sera waved a piece of bacon in the air dramatically before placing it on the sandwich and closing it.
Done with her little rant the girl decided it was only polite to answer the man's - rather pathetic - complaints. "And you are going to give the cap'n his lunch because I was nice enough to give you his sandwich," the girl moved down the line continuing the assemble sandwiches. "Oh and make sure you don't have any crumbs on you face when you show up with his." The girl checked over her shoulder as she heard little foot steps enter her kitchen, seeing the first mate's oshawott the girl wrinkled her nose. She had never really favored water types but the little otter was cut in it's own way... Noticing it picking at the left over crumbs Sera frowned and stopped what she was doing momentarily. Knocking on the cupboard below her before continuing what she was doing, a little axew decided to creek open the cupboard door looking rather drozy.
"Alexi, give out little guest something to eat," the girl mumbled nodding toward the oshawott. The axew rubbed her little eye before nodding and turning back in the hide out and returning with a container of pokemon food. The dragon pokemon tottered out on little legs before placing the container down and popping of the lid revealing the homemade food.
"Axew," the shy pokemon yawned before turning back toward her cupboard to sleep.

he wipes at the corners of his lips with the stationed napkin, a smile seeming to peek from the edges. as he looked at her ranting, hayden recognized something. she was a human - full of snappy and rude remarks, and unable to take shit ( if it went against her ) but she was, still, a whole human. it was nice to see her like this; having annoyances and being incredibly proud of her cooking skills ( in which she should be, because hayden thought they surpassed every cook ever ), just like everyone else onboard with their complaints and whining. the comment about the guard-situation makes him freeze, actually imagining the scenario with an alarmed face. he bites on his tongue, though, from saying any unnecessary things before replying with vigor and quirk: 'don't'cha worry about that! i'll be doing a sneak-attack on him before he could even take two blinks at you!' he wasn't so sure of his cough-cough-questionable-ninja-skills, but he was sure of how splendid he was on defense. offense, he might have lacked, but his defense was crystalline-firm.
maybe it was because of his water-type and ice-type pokemon, his lovely aquarius the oshawott and reme the cubchoo, that made it so, but he digressed.
hayden's been expecting her little 'explanation' for why he should deliver the sandwiches to the captain, and it all makes sense. like most of her other remarks, she was completely absolute and full of poise. why had he even been wishing that she would have one full of holes? he makes a little noise at the back of his throat that sounds like a groan, and he buries his face into the crook of his arm, mumbling inaudible things under his breath. after a moment, though, he seems to accept his fate and straightens up, only to see a beautiful, shy little axew come out from a cupboard ( of all things, w-what ) and bring a jar of pokemon food, setting it in front of aquarius. oh, arceus, that little water-type would just be spoiled tonight. it looked homemade, judging by the jars and the colour - pokemon food usually looked the same, just by different flavours. and besides, hayden was sure she would never let pre-made foods even exist in her kitchen.
supreme ruler of cooking, she was.
'oh, wow, he -- she? is adorable!' hayden compliments, turning his blue eyes against the sleek coat of the other's axew. he'd been wanting one for a while - those looked so regal, and its final evolution truly was a creation - but of course, his own pokemon were giving him a handful, and he was sure he'd lose his head if he was to take care of another. maybe when he learned to be more juggle-able of pokemon balls? c': 'looks so shy, though,' the first mate coos, extending fingers with ( what he hoped ) to be a tolerable face, beckoning the turned pokemon over. 'i-i'd love to say hi,' he says, but he knows the chances are slim; a pokemon that's been sleeping and ( alongside a shy nature, ) he had never experienced a meeting before would always be extremely cautious, as that was the case with he and the captain's ... creative pokemon.
'do i look sweet enough?' he beams, turning and looking at the woman, 'it totally makes you trust me, right?' one could hope. half-joking and half-serious, he turned his attention back to the axew; in which aquarius responded by hiding behind the leg of a chair, staring at the new pokemon with curiosity.

Sera couldn't help but laugh as the man groaned at her explanation, it almost felt like she was on a ship with a bunch of children sometimes. It was like she had to act like their mother or something, cooking them food, giving them rules and boundaries. She shook her head and began stacking most of the sandwiches on a large platter. Placing the platter on the counter where Hayden sat the cook decided she could take a break, the food was done and the boys could come in a get it themselves. Leaning on the counter Sera's eyes followed the first mate's gaze over to her sleepy axew. "She," Sera confirmed. "Her name is Alexi." The axew turn back around upon hearing her name and woddled over to Hayden's finger, grabbing it with one little hand before shaking it. "Quite the little lady, she is, but yeah she is shy." Sera shrugged smiling down at her little dragon. "Likes to hide in the cupboards most of the time."
"Xew..." the little pokemon tottered toward her owner rubbing her eyes as if trying to wake up. Sera crouched down and put out her arms as if to tell the axew to come closer so she could pick her up. The dragon tottered over happily and hopped up into Sera's arms.
"She normally doesn't warm up to people, I am surprised she shook you- erm fingers." The girl snuggled her little pokemon, treating it more like a baby than a pet.

he can't help but to continuously coo at the pokemon, heart seeming to melt at the small contact. goddamnit, if every pokemon were that cute, he wouldn't even have a problem. but no. aquarius seemed a little interested now that she hadn't bit off his finger or anything, and crept up next to her, as if saying his own hello, pokemon-to-pokemon. he smiles softly at the sight before turning to face sera, who had sat down. 'she's simply precious,' he sighs, almost cradling the finger that the little axew had touched. 'i wish i could have one, but i'm always so full with all of mine.' as if on cue, his petilil began to flounce in, the petal on top of its head twisting slightly with a small cry. hayden leans down to pick it up, petting the tiny head before introducing it to sera with a proud smile.
'i guess introductions are in order, then! this is lady, my petilil,' he says, pushing the grass pokemon to the direction of the chef; the elegant pokemon does a little swirl, then postures itself in a curtsy. 'this here is aquarius, my oshawott,' and the water type is still focused on the axew with a curious expression, 'sorry if they're not up to your tastes, if you don't like water and grass pokemon in your kitchen,' his apology is a bit chagrined, a hand rubbing at the back of his neck with a slight crooked show of his grin. 'they're kind'a unable'ta keep themselves in one place, though,' he offers, as if that could be an explanation.
'wow, really?' hayden breathes, looking totally amazed and amused and content all at once, 'then i'm super honoured!' he puffs his chest out, much like a pokemon that would use the move swagger, before sending lady to go say a greeting to sera. it was necessary and incredibly important for pokemon on the same ship to get alongside each other; because once pokemon split, their trainers did too.

"Xewww," Alexi greeted as the next pokemon came spinning into the room. Sera couldn't help but smiled and pat the little dragon's head, she really was such a sweety. Watching as Heyden introduced his petilil made Sera's smile break out into a grin, how adorable!
"Nice to meet you Lady," the redhead nodded her head slightly before looking over to the Oshawott. "And you too Aquarius." Alexi flailed a little arm happily before getting embarrassed and hiding her face in Sera's arm causing the girl to giggle a bit. "She's so shy..."
Sera nodded a bit in response to the man's responce, another giggle. "You must be a good person for Alexi to trust you," Sera nodded. Figuring it would be nice of her to introduce her pokemon Sera turned around, "well you've already met Alexi... Over there is my kadabra, Hue." The pokemon turned around upon hearing his name and waved his spoon.
"Very nice to meet you," the psychic pokemon spoke with his mind.
Sera smiled approvingly at her pokemon, he always did have great people skills. So much calmer than she was, even when she wasn't... "And Exile should be around here somewhere but I guess he ran off..." Sera said looking over she shoulder as if trying to spot her angry little pikachu. "But you probably would have noticed the angry looking pikachu right away if he were here." Sera shook her head, that rodent was nothing but trouble, especially when it came to Sera being around men.
