He exclaimed, looking around at the market. His eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. It was so fascinating, he thought. He had never been able to go to a marketplace before. His mother had kept him inside even after he had recovered to the point where he could. She was worried for his health, he thought. He couldn't help but wonder how she was now. Was she sitting at home, worried? Probably. The edges of his lips curved upward quietly. He couldn't imagine what she'd say when he went home. Provided, he ever did go home. She'd probably scold him for running off at the drop of a hat and never saying anything. He looked down at his hands for a moment but could only smile. He had left with a purpose. And that was that. But even now, he supposed he was trying his best for her. The boy adjusted the white surgery mask, making sure it was tight around his mouth and nose.
He dismissed the strange looks that he received, only continuing to look around. How fascinating! He wasn't quite sure where he could have started! The boy had gathered a little of pocket money himself. This way, no one could get mad at him if he bought something! Brown eyes peered over the small booths and the unfolded blankets. They were loaded with all sorts of goods, he noted. Were they stolen like the stuff that the crew of the Hour had? Probably not, he thought. They were all probably good people. Everyone was! He examined the baubles, debating on what he could buy. Maybe he should buy something for Sera to make up for that day just nights ago. She had saved him from possibly being devoured by a Drilbur. ...did those things even eat people?
...he wasn't sure he wanted to find out, to be honest.
"Skit, skitty." He looked down, staring at Zoff. The Skitty's tail had curled around his leg. He only smiled. What a sweet little thing. Though, unknown to his trainer; Zoff only wanted the fish offered at one of the stalls. But Tae-hyun only looked around quietly, examining one of the bright jewels that rested on a merchant's table. It was so pretty! Maybe he should have bought it for his mother so that she wouldn't worry... he was doing fine... no, he wouldn't do that. She'd probably still be furious, he thought. He laughed then for a moment before turning away. Then, he saw it. Balloons! He always saw those, but he never got to have any! The boy pulled down the surgery mask and ran over towards the balloons.
The children nearby were fascinated as well, tugging on the pantlegs of their parents to buy them one. Just one. But, unfortunate for them. They'd never get any. He handed over his money quickly, muttering quick words of thanks before yanking the balloons out of the vendor's hand before running off and away into the crowd, giggling all the while. He always wanted to have one of these! This was so cool, he thought! His Skitty only sighed in dejection, pattering behind his trainer. Tae-hyun could be such a child.
He wasn't going to get fish tonight then, he thought.
Tae ran down the alleyways, excited beyond all imagination. However, he had run into another body then and the boy hit the ground. The balloons flew out of his hand and the deckhand could only sit up and rub his head as they flew away from him. His lip quivered as he looked up. They fluttered out of his grasp. He shook it off. He could get more, he could. He would. He looked at the person that he had run into as he rubbed the back of his head a bit awkwardly. "Um..." He finally said before letting out a small laugh.
"I'm sorry for running into you!" He chirped. "I didn't mean to!"

it wasn't as dangerous for him to be in the capitol as it would most other people. finnikin dare wore his uniform, not as a proud mark of his station, but to scare off the simple thieves and pickpockets who might otherwise have made a mark of him already. still, he knew better than to have anything of worth nearby his person, because he knew how people were; he was one, after all. he could only imagine how vagabonds thought, because he thought just the same. but today he was a royal guard and nothing less, and he kept a hand on his ceremonial sabre - which he actually loathed using and was getting rusty in its scabbard - just so nobody would get any ideas, because he really couldn't be bothered stabbing anyone here. the paperwork was immense, and besides, these were his nice dress pants, and his new leather boots. he didn't want to have to wash those. but in any case, the market was essentially his home base and even though technically he preferred the smaller side alleyways with the shopkeepers he could bully into bribery, the main street stores were also acceptable in his endless hunt for more expensive, beautiful clothes. pushing back his hair with a smirk at his own reflection in a window, he approved of himself immensely. he was so absorbed in ensuring his hair was correctly placed atop his handsome face that he didn't even notice the small cannonball which knocked him sideways. luckily, he remained standing - that could have been embarrassing - but he whirled onto his attacker with a menacing glare. people seemed to be making a habit of careening into him lately; at least this kid hadn't landed awkwardly on top of him. as the creature looked up at him, rubbing the back of its neck, finn kept his stern face on - not a natural pose for him, but one he kept for ragamuffins and street urchins who didn't know better - and just made a disapproving hmmph noise. " i'm damn sure you didn't mean to, because if you did--" he said, leaving the end of the sentence hanging as he thought about how he should go about this. he could have been really mean and cocked a pistol at his forehead, given the kid a run for his money, snarled and glared and thrown him in the city's gaol for a night. but then, as if in a moment of divine revelation, finn decided not to be mean. if there were anything to gain from this, he could gain it by being lovely, charming, the guard that he was supposed but never really managed to be. releasing his pidgeotto from her pokeball, he commanded her in a soft voice, " myrtle, go and get those," and pointed towards the balloons that were slowly bobbing up into the smoggy sky. giving the kid a sidelong look, he murmured with an easy smile, " they were yours, yes?" grasping the strings of the balloons which his helpful young pidgeotto had returned to him, he held them out like a peace treaty, a declaration of truce, hoping his outburst before and his rather dominating appearance didn't put the boy off. any kind of friend was a good friend in finn's book, even a scruffy kid like this one. Tae-hyun only stared with wide eyes as he examined the other's apparel. It was really fancy, he noted. So much better than his own clothing. He lowered his head, looking at the cheap fabric that his worn shirt was made of. The threads were coming loose now too, he realized. Maybe this person was some kind of special people? Oh no, the boy thought. That must have meant ... he was going to die today. Yup, he always knew this day was going to come. He just hadn't expected it to be today of all days. He had expected more time to enjoy his life! Not be dragged off into a dungeon. He had barely lived! Okay. So maybe he was being a little over dramatic, he thought. Surely, this person couldn't be that cruel.
Wrong. Tae shrunk beneath the other's hardened state. He would be punished. A thousand years of shame upon his dynasty. Shame on his cow. Shame on his whole family. He waited to get kicked. Rich people did that a lot, he noted. They liked it, he thought. Was this guy rich? Sure looked like it. But then he did something unexpected. Tae only watched as the Pidgeotto flew up and gathered his balloons for him. His smile returned then. Was that was Pidgeys turned into? He blanched. He doubted that Morph would ever be able to be like that. He was so scared of flying that it was ridiculous. Though, it wasn't fair to say that his one and only bird Pokemon was the only one scared of heights. He got nervous too! Sometimes. ...okay. All the time.
"Mmhm!" The boy replied, getting up off the floor. He dusted off his pants before gathering the strings of the balloons in his hand. "Thank you sir!" This was great! He got his balloons back! And to make sure he didn't lose them gain, he tied them around his wrist. "It's really nice of you to help me." Tae-hyun advanced a bit closer, enveloping the other in a hug. He let go after a few moments before offering a smile bigger than the last. "M'name's Tae-hyun!" He chirped. "You can call me Tae or Hyunie though! ...or moron. But I don't like answering to that."
But. No one liked answering to that, did they?

well, it seemed he had certainly made the right decision here. this kid seemed too fragile to be disciplined, even to fulfill finn's daily dose of self-righteous sadism. as much as he did find pushing around the lower classes ridiculously satisfying, he wasn't one of those uptight snobs who did it just because it was second nature. finn, in his spare time, was one of the grungiest, dirtiest vagabonds around, and sometimes the desire took hold of him to remind him that he didn't have to take that kind of nonsense when he was in his guard guise. he had grown up on the streets, and it had taken years of dedication and practice and training to get to this state, where he could happily lie through his teeth and not be hit with the consequences. so it was kind of like a built-up frustration with being treated like he was inferior which caused him to treat people like they were inferior. ehh, it didn't make sense, but it didn't need to, because he was a goddamn royal guard and he could do what he pleased. and right now it pleased him to rescue some inadequate kid's balloons. at a second glance, he realised that the person before him was no preadolescent but rather a young man. he guessed the balloons and general childish demeanour caught him off-guard and he had presumed without further evidence the individual was a young child, a street urchin. he wasn't covered in mud, but his clothes were ... rather tacky, to be perfectly honest. so he had to be someone who was off the streets, but not rich. some middle class second-born son, or something. whatever. finn had reached the end of his caring spectrum. all he knew was that this kid - boy, man, thing, person, whatever - was leaping forward towards him. hands leaping instantly to the weaponry at his side, he was inches away from leaving a nicely shaped hole in his abdomen when he realised it was not an attack, it was a hug. it had been a while since finn had received a hug, and much longer since he had received one from a male. or what he presumed was a male. he grudgingly accepted that the feeling was nice no matter the gender, but grumbled under his breath to make up for the jumpiness he had exhibited moments earlier, since he was usually such a laidback guy. " no sudden movements," he said, then his scowl was marred by a grin. he said cheerfully, " i could have killed you." punching the kid on the shoulder, he admonished him in a voice that was half-playful, his usual tone where one couldn't tell whether he was being serious or not. luckily for the kid, he was not - this time. " but by arceus, you've really got to man up." pidgeotto landed to rest on his shoulder with a chirp at tae-hyun, the friendliest of finn's party already taking a shining to the kid. hyunnie... it sounded like honey, and was definitely as sweet. tae was cute too; this kid was a goldmine for adorable nicknames. " hyunnie it is," finn remarked, flashing him a smile in return. " i'm finnikin, but call me finn." dropping a glance down at him, he took one look at the balloons tied to his wrist and raised his eyes to the sky, a full laugh escaping his lips. this kid really was that - a kid. it was lucky finn was here to take him under his wing, because anyone of lesser moral integrity would have robbed him blind and left him in a ditch to die. and that would have been an unfortunate end for such a cute little guy. that was it - finn had come across an idea - he'd adopt hyunnie as his pet. perfect. then it wasn't weird or anything. Was it hard to get? He hadn't the faintest notion. He supposed he had enough for it to be safe, though he wasn't quite sure how much normal people got. His mother and father only taught him to never hit girls and that cursing was bad. ...or were those manners? Either way, he thought he had enough of it.
Tae hadn't noticed the sudden movement that the other had made. He hadn't noticed that the man's hand went to his sword. He only hugged him tightly, laughing a little at the other's tenseness. Was it really that weird? He supposed he wouldn't hug him anymore if that was that he really wanted. If it made him nervous anyway. He let go moments after before returning the other's grin with one of his own. Though, it disappeared not too long after. He swallowed hard, lowering his hands to his abdomen and holding his hands folded over it. "E- Eh?" He said a bit confused. Could have? Could have killed him? Was he dangerous? All the red flags in his head went up. "Really?!" He shouted suddenly, leaning forward and disturbing the distance between them. Tae didn't know what personal space was after all. Well, he might have. But just chose to ignore it. Either way.
"Why?" He asked. It was such a simple question, he thought. With a million and one answers. Tae-hyun laughed then, rubbing the back of his head nervously at what the other said next. Yeah, he supposed he should have. The captain had apparently decided to put it on his bucket list. One of his main objectives was to make the boy manlier. Though, Tae-hyun supposed that wouldn't happen for a fairly long time. "I get that a lot from the boss." He replied, laughing softly. He wasn't supposed to leak information about the Hour to anyone, he thought. So he would keep it quiet for as long as he could. Though, he supposed mistakes happened. Surely, the crew would understand. Either that or they'd throw him overboard. And at that, the boy's hands suddenly became a bit clammier.
The boy turned his gaze towards the bird before smiling wider if even remotely possible. "Hi there!" He said, lifting his hand to pet the bird pokemon's soft feathers. He pursed his lips, whistling to the pidgeotto for a moment. "I have a pidgey, you know?" He said to the bird. "He's scared of flying though, so. I don't think he'll learn any time soon." He laughed. "Do you think I should throw him out of a tree so he'll learn?"
He turned his gaze back to the other and nodded quietly. "Finn?" He repeated. It sounded nice enough.
"You mean like the fins on a fish?"
Was he really just that clueless? Well, maybe.

there were only two answers that finnikin could see that would satisfy his questions. one, that tae was playing up the cute little kid thing to get protection from slimy thieves and the filth of the street - in other words, finnikin - or two, he had lost half his brain in a near-fatal skydiving accident. he was started to be inclined towards the latter, if only because his superhuman ego refused to accept that this kid, no matter how young and inexperienced he looked, didn't recognise him. his entire life revolved around the fact that the entire city knew his name and his reputation. if someone was going around, gleefully purchasing balloons and hugging him, well, that was just not good enough. in response to tae's confused little look, finnikin gave him a look, equally surprised. windswept hair, pistols, shotgun, sabre, royal guard uniform, general appearance of dashing heroics? if those didn't give him away, then nothing would. before he got a chance to speak, tae leaped forward once more. again with the sudden movements! the kid was all up in his space. " yes, really," he said, in a voice that dripped a sense of 'is this guy serious?' instead, running a hand up and down his uniform, showing it off with a little gesture of tadaa, he asked, eyebrow raised along with the questioning glance, " so you're not ... afraid?" turning around, finnikin debated leaving and going on with his guard duties and leaving the happy kid with his balloon, but really he didn't feel like doing any work now - or ever - and this conversation was as pleasant as many he'd had recently. he decided to stay, but was confounded by tae's question. " why what?" why would he have killed him by accident so merrily just then? why did he rescue the kid's balloons? why was he so dashingly handsome? finnikin didn't know the question but he would do his best to provide the answers. he was, after all, in the answer business. when you were a rat it was the end of the line for you if you couldn't give relevant, meaningful and life-saving information: hopefully saving your own life, that was. with a cock of the head, they returned to much more solid conversation topics. finnikin slipped much more easily into this role, like an eel dipped in grease. " ah, where do you work? i could drop by, give the boss the old one-two, get you a payrise. all part of the service, friend," he beamed, wrapping an arm around the boy's shoulders in a kind of sideways hug, slapping the spot where his biceps would be if he had any, and returning to normal, facing the boy. myrtle - the little traitor - cooed into tae's strokes and shot finn a glare. he never gave her any affection whatsoever unless he was really sleepy - and thereby not thinking straight - or really impressed with her. as he chatted away to the pidgeotto, she responded with little chirps and squawks every now and then, so it seemed like the pair were having a proper conversation. finn just laughed; the situation was amusing, and he was a laidback kinda guy. he'd never pass up the chance to laugh something off. " it's the only way he will," finn said sagely, nodding at his own advice. " myrtle learned to fly falling out of an airship." another deadly glare, this time sparked by the memory of her 'accidental' fall as a young pidgey. nodding back at tae, he grinned and laughed at his statement. like the fins on a fish: more like a shark. smirking, he then shrugged, " whatever floats your boat. just don't forget it. if you're ever in need, buddy, give me a yell. you know where to find me," he said, pointing with a thumb at the crest on his jacket. examining tae with a concerned eye, he felt some inner part of him - a part that was rusty with disuse - feel worried that he might get mugged or killed on the way home. and somehow, unusually, a part of him cared. Though, he would have thought that his parents dropped him on the head was certainly more likely. After all! He had never set foot on an airship until the past few months. He supposed he should have recognized the other with the way he seemed so surprised. Though, no recollection came. He lifted a hand, holding it to his mouth as he thought. Had he ever seen that uniform before? He tilted his head to the side before looking at Finn again. He opened his mouth for a moment. He really thought he knew! But, the name escaped him again. Then he closed his mouth again as he looked quietly at the other. He shook his head no. "Why would I be?" He answered, blinking. What a strange question to ask. "You haven't hurt me. So why would I be scared?"
Was he supposed to be scared? Finn looked to be normal. Like anyone else on the street. Well, okay. Maybe not just anyone else on the street. He could admit that he was probably classier than he could ever be. "Why?" He repeated, thinking it over for a moment. "Why would you kill me?" Had he done something wrong? "Because you were surprised?" He couldn't help but laugh a bit more. He had answered a question with another question. "Because I blew your cover?" He teased. As if. "Where?" He replied, thinking over his answer. Could he say that he worked on the Hour? No, probably not. ...could he say he worked on a ship? "A ship." He replied. An ambiguous answer, he realized. Surely, he must have been much more cunning than the others cut him out to be. Tae only smiled then, all too pleased with himself.
He whistled again to the bird. "You're pretty, you know?" Tae-hyun added, stroking the bird's feathers gently. "Really?" His eyes widened, surprised. Wasn't that like. Pokemon cruelty? "That'd be mean, I think." He frowned. He looked at the Pidgeotto resting on his shoulder for a moment longer then looked quietly. "Did he really shove you off an airship?" He was almost afraid to get an answer. The uniform was impressive, he knew. But he was quiet then, only smiling and nodding where he had to. "I will!" Pause. "Then you come and ask me if you need help too, okay?"
"That's something that friends do, right?"

so before him stood, not tae the normal boy, but tae the gaping giant-mouthed fish. what as he doing, opening and closing his jaws like that? did they need exercise, or was he trying to impress finn with his regularly cleaned molars? people these days seemed to have a fixation with teeth. or maybe just the ones who were around him, spurred into action by his pristine pearly whites. he guessed the kid was confused about something - about why he should be scared of him. finn thought the answer should have been clear as day: he was a royal guard, they were well known for callous acts of savagery towards the civilians whom, as it was well known, they cared very little about. but clearly tae had a much nicer view of the world. "i haven't hurt you, alright, given. but i could have. doesn't the uniform scare you? doesn't the face scare you?" there was a tiny bit of detectable desperation in his voice; didn't tae know who he was? it made him a little sad to think of it, being an unknown in the world of the floating islands. and besides, he wanted to know that if tae ran into one of his comrades - elliott, or will - that he wouldn't go about, mucking around with balloons and making himself a nuisance: making himself a target. finn just couldn't stand to see the little guy hurt: he'd become rather protective of his little hyunnie, and had definitely come to see him as his and his alone, like an abandoned kitten he found in a box and took home to care for. he laughed for a moment then, realising finally what tae was talking about.
"a combination of being surprised," he admitted, "and probably just because i could." he couldn't lie to himself: it had happened before. when someone got in his way, however innocently they may have seemed, he often found it easier to dispose of them quickly and efficiently, rather than try to remove the obstacle in a more diplomatic way. "you blew my cover? i'm no spy," he laughed it off, but then thought about it. was he a spy? dashing hero, dressed to kill and armed to the teeth, with information to spare for both sides of the battle. he was everyman's spy, really. like a free information booth in the middle of the street; maybe not quite free, but a couple of coins for a beer and he was all yours. whether he was a spy or not, the mention of a ship - any ship - piqued his interest. "a ship, eh? i'm on a ship more often than i'd like; there's a chance i might see you around!" he was jovial, more than friendly, joking. his tone was so ambiguous, he could have been just any guy off the street. he'd honed it well to be just beyond the point where trust began to wear in and the walls came down. watching his self-satisfied smile, finnikin cocked his head slightly to the left, watching the boy's facial expressions. was there something his new buddy tae wasn't telling him? finnikin threw a despairing look at his pidgeotto. tae had patted her feathers all of twice and she'd probably run away with him without a backward glance. "hey, you thought of it, kid," he said, making a joke out of the whole shebang.
"i was only joking. wasn't i, myrtle, baby," he cooed, stroking the shorter feathers under her beak with the back of his hand. this was the most attention the bird had received in all her lifetime and she was reveling in it. as far as she knew, finn was being nice to her and that was an unusual circumstance. something had to be going on, but what? nodding as finn tickled her neck, she cooed calmly, "pidgey, pidge,
[/i]" and preened her feathers majestically, mighty proud of herself. once he got that answer, finn quit the ridiculous public show of affection and hoped that might assuage the kid's fears about his obvious cruelty to his pokemon. he loved them - when they were strong and winning battles. at any other point he was less than overjoyed with them. grinning, he stuck a hand out to shake with tae, the strong, working hands strangely at odds with his well-tailored suit. " i promise, i will, tae." with a gulp to dislodge the doubt in his throat as the boy spoke of 'friends', finnikin wished this were one of his normal conversations, when both parties knew that they couldn't trust each other and to do so might mean death or serious injury. but tae actually seemed like he liked him, and by arceus finn actually liked the kid, enough to care about him, which was a shock to his system. he didn't want to let go of the handshake, hanging on to him, as if by keeping him there he could stop him getting hurt. his little abandoned kitten, out on the streets all alone! oh, no, he had forgotten something. all alone except for the pidgey who couldn't fly. A member of the Royal Guard. They were known to be cruel to civilians and even worse to pirates. They weren't really like guards, he thought. They only were what they were in name. Though, even that wasn't true. He supposed he should have been scared. And he was, even if it was just a little bit. The other didn't seem like he'd harm him. "Why would clothes scare me?" He laughed again, covering his mouth then with his hand. He made stupid faces whenever he laughed, he thought. "Your face doesn't scare me." He replied, lacing his fingers together behind his back. "You're cute." He hadn't thought about it when he said it. It just came out. Because it was true, wasn't it?
He lowered his head down for a moment, glancing at his stomach then to the other's multitude of weaponry. He had no desire today, he thought. No need to die today. "I'll try to keep that in mind from now on then!" He said. He'd probably forget later though, Tae-hyun thought. "I'll always ask for permission before I hug you!" He shrugged then, raising his hands up in surrender for a moment. "How do I know? That's what they all say, you know?" His arms fell back to his sides again. He stifled a laugh at what he said next. Tay-hyun highly doubted that they were ever to meet on a ship. If any ship. "Maybe!" He replied. "But I get airsick so it's not really pleasant a lot of the time." He admitted.
"Guess that means he loves you, Myrtle." He added. The bird seemed ridiculously happy from so little pampering. He wondered if she really wasn't treated all that well. But he dismissed it, thinking nothing more of it. Maybe she was just easily pleased? He glanced as Myrtle showed off her wings for a moment before settling back into her position on his shoulder. He lifted a hand too, shaking the other's hand. It was strange, he noticed. His own hand was remarkably softer than the other's. But, the thing was. Wasn't Finn part of a higher position in society? He shouldn't have worked so hard then, he thought. Or maybe that was normal and maybe it was just because Tae had only joined the Hour months before the present? He wasn't sure.
The other hadn't let go of his hand. So, the boy slipped his fingers between Finn's and only smiled.
"I promise too."

he could only help himself but grin at tae's positive attitude. most people took one look at him and either wet themselves, spat at him or tried to kill him. sometimes, they did all three at the same time. he considered how clothes could scare someone, thinking aloud a little. " hmm. i could always take off my shirt and smother you with it." he hummed as he considered the ramifications of that act, not in the least that his shirt and jacket might get dirty, or that he might explode tae's brain with his magical abs. he was about to thank tae for his underhanded compliment - he supposed it was good that he didn't think his face was scary, because as a teenager he had relied on his face as his smooth-talking weaponry - when he was caught with his mouth hanging open. he was what? cute. he was cute. well, he'd never been told that by anyone who wasn't female, and definitely not by anyone who didn't say it for a reason. was he cute, though? he'd always thought it was just something people said to him, that he had a boyish face, that it helped people fall for his charms. but maybe it was true? finnikin had always liked having his ego stroked, and this was no exception. " you're not bad yourself," he smirked, running a hand through his long hair and looking away, utterly impressed with himself. he really was cute. rubbing the back of his neck, finnikin started to regret his statement. he liked surprises - who didn't? - and he probably wouldn't mind if these explosive hugs were what he could look forward to. so long as he wasn't overly armed, like now, and stuck with an itchy trigger finger, he'd be fine with it. he was sure. " nah, you don't have to do that. i'm just messing with you." spontaneity was the spice of life. he'd rather not lose that sort of fun before it even started, finnikin was a fun-loving kind of guy. he grinned, putting his hand to tae's lips in a shh movement. " now that you know, i really will have to kill you." he stifled a laugh at tae's comment - if he got airsick all the time, why work on a ship? the boy was clearly spinning him a tale, and finn, for a liar, didn't like being lied to - and just shook his head in wonder, holding his stomach as he laughed. that was the problem with actually doing his royal guard duties: it meant his muscles hurt all the time. he got a great body out of it, but all the work so wasn't worth it. if finnikin could have his way, he would lounge about all day, eat whatever he liked, and still have the perfect physique. but, unfortunately, life didn't work that way. finnikin grumbled slightly under his breath as tae told an unwitting lie. he didn't want to raise his pidgeotto's hopes, there wasn't going to be much affection from him until she earned it. but did he love her? probably, in his weaker moments. he didn't like to admit it. as tae shook his hand, the softness of his skin reminded him of his younger days, back when hard work had been a thing of the future and all he had to worry about was whether elli was going to throw a snowball from the left or from the right. those were good times, before everyone had grown up too quickly and things become far too serious. he'd had to climb laboriously up from the lowest rungs in society, and it had taken work - a lot of work. now that he had reached the plateau, he lazed about a little; but his hands and his physique always reminded him of the effort he had put in. he was shocked out of his reverie as the manly, friendly handshake turned into something else. this, combined with the cute comment... finn put two and two together. he as showing affection, far more than friends! mission compromised! abort! abort! finnikin, used to thinking on his feet, managed to grumble, " how do you survive on an airship being all cute like this," and froze there, fingers entwined with tae's smaller ones. what was he supposed to do here? he hadn't cared about anyone in years, let alone finding that rare someone who cared back. the street-smart rat was lost for words; a cat had caught his tongue. He replied, grinning from ear to ear. He highly doubted that the other would go out of his way to try and kill him. Tae-hyun had hardly done anything wrong, he thought. But then again. He looked over the other for a moment, careful to not let his gaze linger for too long. He was part of the Royal Guard. And more than often, that meant trouble on the deckhand's behalf. "Well. You wouldn't, right?" He added, a bit nervous on the topic. Wait. What. What did he just say? What? Light pink creeped across his pale cheeks as the boy struggled to suppress the rosy color. What was he supposed to say to that? How embarrassing. He supposed maybe it was the same for the other when he had said that Finn was cute. But then again, he highly doubted that was the case. If anything, he looked almost pleased with the compliment. "Um, thank you." He squeaked out.
"Make up your mind." He added, resisting the urge to laugh again. Tae-hyun flinched then at the sudden presence upon his lips, though he was slightly relieved to know that it wasn't what he was expecting. If he was expecting anything, that is. Though, what the other said next made him nervous again. "Don't tease me like that." The deckhand said, returning with an almost silly grin on his face. He wasn't spinning a lie though, he wasn't. It was the complete and honest truth, he thought. He did get airsick from time to time. It wasn't the smartest of ideas, but it was what had happened. The first thing he had seen and he took off like a bullet. But he supposed it was okay if no one believed him aside from his crew-mates. They knew his air sickness all too well.
He grasped the other's hand quietly, squeezing gently and smiling. He seemed put off by the way he was behaving. Was it because he was holding his hand? Oh, maybe he was one of those people that didn't like it when others held their hand. Especially because he was a boy. Maybe that was what made him feel a bit awkward? But Finn hadn't let go of his hand, he realized. And what he said next made the pirate become a bit flustered. He swung his arm at his side, swinging the other's too. "I dunno." He replied, giving a cheeky little smile. "No one likes me so maybe that's why?" He added, blinking a bit confused. "I'm kind of useless, y'know?"
Then he paused for a moment, looking up at Finn. "Do you want me to let go?"

with a malicious grin sparking up the side of his mouth and into his eyes, finnikin raised his eyebrows. " i don't know..." he said, stretching out the final syllable mysteriously. pulling one arm out of his jacket, he said with a shrug, " not even i'm sure what i might do next." pulling his other arm out, he hung it over a nearby banister of the steps leading up to someone's house. after all, he didn't want it to get dirty. he wasn't that spontaneous. besides, the breeze coming through was quite nice now and with only a tight white sweatshirt on underneath, he felt much cooler. the jacket, however nice with its red piping and black velvet, was a little stifling at times, especially in the middle of the city, where the sun could get unbearable if you were directly in it. feeling tae's eyes on him, finn soaked up the attention. he really was getting a good ego trip today, it could last him for a week or more. he might have to hunt down his baby kitten whenever he was feeling blue to perk him up a little. " don't mention it," he replied easily, waving away the thanks. the spreading blush across tae's cheeks was really all the thanks he needed. the tables had turned, it seemed: finn's sudden movement had caused the other to flinch noticeably. feeling sorry for doing it, finn nevertheless kept up the happy-go-lucky attitude. he was enjoying mucking with him, it wasn't like with elliott where the guy went all emotionally damaged and grumpy after a little joke. " i'll tease you all i want. your reactions are just precious. i'm not going to kill you, i promise. and that's the truth." he said it plainly, straight-faced and imploring, all puppy-dog eyes and apologetic half-smiles. he meant it, mostly. as truthful as finnikin dare could get, that was what was happening now. if tae knew him any better he might be impressed, but as they were practical strangers he couldn't assume tae knew anything about his lying tendencies. he admired tae's bald-faced positivity about this. here he was, mind going like a locomotive trying to figure out what he should do next, and tae seemed so simply assured in what he was doing. finn would kill for that kind of calm in some of his more pressing social situations. as his arm was swung to the side and back again, finnikin fought the urge to bundle hyunnie over his shoulder and carry him away to his secret lair, where nobody could have the little guy but him. however, he didn't. " you? useless? he laughed, shaking his head. " i would never have guessed," he said not too seriously, pointing at the balloons nonchalantly with his free hand. but he frowned as tae said that nobody liked him; he had grown attached to the guy, and while it might have been a glamour that would wear off once they parted for a little while, he felt that anyone who didn't like him was looking for a nice punch in the face. " do i? not really. but you might need that arm back sometime," he joked, then shrugged the shoulder that wasn't loosely connected to tae, the one underneath myrtle, who squawked indignantly and ruffled her feathers up before taking off and hovering in the sky. finniking grinned at the kid easily. " tell you what. we'll give you a royal escort back to your ship, so no more unfortunate balloon losses happen, okay?" MYRTLE THE PIDGEOTTO
